Exchange 2010 restore fails with "0xe00003bf - Cannot open one or more mail messages because of unknown Exchange Web Service errors"

During the restore of individual items of Exchange 2010 backed up to a folder using the Granular Recovery Technology (GRT), the restore fails with the following error
Final error: 0xe00003bf - Cannot open one or more mail messages because of unknown Exchange Web Service errors. Review the job log for more information.
Final error category: Resource Errors

During the restore process Backup Exec tries to establish Exchange Web Services (EWS) connection on the mailbox server instead of the Client Access Server (CAS) which results in the failure.
The errors shown above in SGMON and EWSDebug occur if the Client Access Server (CAS) resolves to IPv6 when attempting to ping localhost.
To confirm: Run the following command on the Exchange CAS: ping localhost
Check if it returns an IPV6 value like ::1
- Run a redirected restore and target the restore to the server running CAS role. In the Restore job properties select Microsoft Exchange Redirection tab and enter the name of the CAS server in place of "Restore to server or Data Availability Group".
Or, if you are experiencing name resolution issues in your environment you can try the following solution:
- Open the hosts file located at %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\ by using an editor such as Notepad.
Add the following lines into the file:
actual IPv4 address <hostname of the computer>
actual IPv4 address <FQDN of the computer>
actual IPv4 address <localhost>
