Redirected restore of SQL database fails with error "0xe000fe09 - The directory is invalid"

 


Error



Restore Job Log shows:-

Final error : 0xe000fe09 - The directory is invalid.

Final error category: Resource error

Environment



Backup Exec 2012

SQL  Server 2005 / 2008


Cause



This issue occurs if options "Use alternate drive" and "Only when original drive does not exist" are selected in the restore wizard and target drive does not have enough free space or there is permissions issue.


Solution



Workaround:

1. In the restore wizard, select option "Use destination instance's default data directory".

Note: Please make sure there is enough free space on the target SQL  server's data drive.

2. Re-try the restore job.
