Backup Exec 2010 R3: AVVI GRT restore from a VMWare backup set fails with 0xe0009741 - Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images

When attempting a GRT (Granular Recovery Technology) of file level data from a VMware backup, the restore fails with the errors below.
Error in Job Log:
V-79-57344-38721 - 0xe0009741 - Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images. Restores that use Granular Recovery Technology may not be available from this backup set

Workaround: Redirect the restore of the entire VM to a different name or ESX host and extract the data needed from the virtual machine.
