Issue

Backups using BE 2012 are failing for vss errors.  You are backing up to a hitachi USB drive

Environment

Specifically Hitachi USB drives or any other USB drive that is very large, in size, IE 2 or more TB

Cause

The jobs will fail in the end to properly complete a Backup Job because these disk are formatted in Advanced Formatted Disk (512E).  The sector size is 4KB (4096 Bytes) Because Microsoft offers limited support for these types of disk, Backup Exec will also not be able to successfully complete backups to these type of disks

Solution

Reformat the disk that are using Advanced Disk Formatting into standard NTFS format with 512 kb size sectors
