Issue

During the base installation from CD/iso-image the installation wizard does not ask for network configuration details. This causes the server to boot with no network configuration details and won't allow you to access the web interface for the Administration Console.

Error

The server simply reboots after the installation completes and at the login screen the login URL does not display an IP-address. It simply says "Connect to https://<this server>:9000" instead.

Example:

Environment

VMware ESX(i) 4.x and 5.x

 Vmware vSphere 5

Symantec Encryption Mangement Server 3.3.0 or PGP Universal Server 3.x version

Cause

The network adapter was not detected during installation. This is due to known limitations with the text based installer that we use for the Symantec Encryption Management Server installation.

Solution

Use supported network adapters. For example:

Do not use VMXNET3. Please use the E1000 adapter or the flexible network adapter.
