Problem

Which version of Symantec Enterprise Vault (tm) can this hotfix be applied?
This hotfix can only be applied to the following versions of Enterprise Vault for:

Enterprise Vault for File System Archiving 9.0 Service Pack 2, Build 1061

Cause

Description of problem

Etrack 2729682:

If the FSAUtility -pm operation failed to move one or more file placeholders to destination, administrators were forced to fix each such placeholder issue first, before they can continue the remaining migration operation. There was no option to ignore such placeholder and continue with remaining placeholder migration (-pm) operation.

Etrack 2789547:

On occasion, if migration using FSAUtility.exe failed to delete an Archive point from the source target, the FSA archive task could potentially archive data from both source and target locations and associate the archive to both source and target volumes.

Etrack 2398813:

The level of logging in FSAUtility.exe have proved insufficient in certain exceptional cases to determine the root cause of the problem.

Etrack 2682975:

Some changes were identified that could improve database record consistency with regards to updates made as part of running FSAUtility.exe.

What issue(s) does this hotfix resolve?

Description of solution

Etrack 2729682:

FSAUtility.exe -pm operation now supports a new command line flag called "-i". "-i" causes FSAUtility to ignore placeholder migration errors that are resolvable after the command completes, including failure to determine whether a file is a placeholder or failure to create placeholder on destination for any reason.

Etrack 2789547:

Additional checks have been implemented to detect archives associated with multiple volumes, if this issue is detected an error is logged to the event log. Customers can call support to fix the issues.

Etrack 2398813:

Additional logging and event log errors have been added for FSAUtility -pm operations.

Etrack 2682975:

Additional validations have been implemented for FSAUtility.exe –pm operation before database updates occur which will improve database record consistency.

How to Install this hotfix:

Following steps need to be performed on all Enterprise Vault Servers:

1. Stop all Enterprise Vault services.

2. Once all services are stopped, take a backup copy of the files listed in the "Files updated" section, locatable in the Enterprise Vault installation folder (which by default is "C:\Program Files\Enterprise Vault").

3. Copy the updated files listed in the "Files updated" section, packaged in this hotfix, to the Enterprise Vault installation folder, replacing the original.

4. Run the sql file "Etrack_2789547_Install.sql" against the Enterprise Vault Directory database (named "EnterpriseVaultDirectory").

5. Start all Enterprise Vault services.

How to Uninstall this hotfix:

1. Stop all Enterprise Vault services.

2. Once all services are stopped, take the backed up copy of the files listed in the "Files updated" section and replace the hotfixed files, locatable in the Enterprise Vault installation folder (which by default is "C:\Program Files\Enterprise Vault").

3. Run the sql file "Etrack_2789547_Uninstall.sql" against the Enterprise Vault Directory database.

4. Start all Enterprise Vault services.
