Backup selections are empty and backup fails for a Hyper-V Virtual Machine if it is named as NotesServer in Hyper-V manager

Issue



Backup selections are empty and backup fails with below error for a Hyper-V Virtual Machine (VM) if it is named as "NotesServer" (Without Quotes) in Hyper-V manager. Same issue is also observed for the following VM name's (Without Quotes):

"DAOS"
"Tran Logs"
"Fast Copy"


Error



A failure occurred accessing the SnapShot handle


Solution



This issue is resolved in Backup Exec 2014 or later versions. 


To resolve this issue and receive the new Backup Exec improvements please upgrade to the current version of Backup Exec.

 

NOTE: Symantec continues to focus on the current release and future releases, there are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in earlier versions of the software at the present time. Workaround:

Rename the Virtual Machine in hyper-v manager to anything other than NotesServer, DAOS, Tran Logs or Fast Copy.
