RAID controller firmware in NetBackup 5000, 5020 and 5200 Appliances shipped prior to July 2012 must be updated to prevent a condition where the failure of a single disk could cause a cascading failure on multiple (good) drives. If multiple drives appear to fail it can lead to a forced offlining of the RAID Virtual Disk and other unexpected results, up to and including data loss.
Environment
The following NetBackup Appliances have the potential to be affected:
- 5000
- 5020
- 5200
Note: NetBackup 5220 Appliances are not affected by this issue.
How to Determine if a 5000 or 5020 Appliance is Affected:
To check firmware version, log into the sysadmin account and issue these commands:
- admin
- su
- /opt/MegaRAID/MegaCli/MegaCli64 -adpallinfo -a0 | grep "FW Version"
Example:
Entering root view, following commands are available...
admin --Administrator user account
history --Display the current session's command line history
logout --Logout the CLI session
network --Network Management
nodeinfo --Show storage pool nodes info
PDCLI --PureDisk Command Line Interface Management
FC --Fibre Channel management
PureDisk --PureDisk Management
scsp --Symantec Critical System Protection
storage --Storage Management
system --System Management
vzone --Virtual Zone Management
IPMI --IPMI Management
example5020-01> admin
Entering admin view, following commands are available...
exit --Return to root view
history --Display the current session's command line history
logout --Logout the CLI session
nodeinfo --Show storage pool nodes info
password --Change user password
su --Change to root access
example5020-01.admin> su
example5020-01:~ # /opt/MegaRAID/MegaCli/MegaCli64 -adpallinfo -a0 | grep "FW Version"
FW Version : 1.40.322-1445
Note: Enter logout twice to log out.
If the value of the last four digits is less than 1650, then the Appliance has the potential to be affected. A firmware upgrade should be undertaken as soon as possible.
How to Determine if a 5200 Appliance is Affected:
To check firmware version, log into the CLISH menu and issue these commands:
- Support
- MegaCli Run
- -adpallinfo -a0 | grep "FW Version"
Example:
