What files were updated for Unix in the 2012-2 update?

Cause

Resolved issues in BV-Control for UNIX

2012-2 Update resolves the following issues:

Executing data collection queries on the Linux Server assets caused the system
to reboot. This issue was observed when the open system call was executed on
the file /dev/watchdog.

2012-2 Update resolves this issue.

BV-Control for UNIX agents failed to start on SUSE Linux and AIX after the
systems were rebooted.

2012-2 Update resolves this issue on the Linux systems by creating startup
links using chkconfig command as oppose to manually. On AIX the issue is
resolved by changing the entries in /etc/inittab.

Queries executed on the Content field of the Files datasource failed to respond
when it was scoped to /dev and /proc directory.
2012-2 Update resolves this issue by blocking the content field for the following
cases:

dev is mounted at default /dev location.

proc is mounted at default /proc location.

Proc is mounted at custom location other than /proc.
This solution works for the proc file systems which are present in /etc/mtab
file. If proc file systems are present on the targets that are not present in
the /etc/mtab, then data for the content field is fetched for such directories
    if requested.

Checks for Symantec home directory were retrieving incorrect results. Home
directory query scoped to a user having “/” as a home directory was reporting
extra records.
2012-2 Update resolves this issue and no extra records are reported.

Applying RapidFire Updates on the UNIX target computers

The 2012-2 Update contains the RapidFire 10590.rf, which you must apply on the
UNIX target computers where the BV-Control for UNIX agent is installed. Both
the BV-Control for UNIX and BV-Control for Oracle snap-ins uses the RapidFire
Updates that are applied on the UNIX target computers for querying and data
collection. For more details on RapidFire Updates, see the About RapidFire Updates
topic in the BV-Control_for_UNIX_Online_Help.chm.

The RapidFire mechanism lets you apply the RapidFire Updates on the UNIX
target computers in the following ways:

■ Apply the RapidFire 10590.rf on all UNIX target computers at the enterprise
level.
■ Apply the RapidFire 10590.rf on the selected target computers only.

Note: Ensure that the FIPS mode is enabled on the Information Server to view the
RapidFire 10590.rf under the RapidFire Updates node. In case the FIPS mode is
disabled you must enable it before the RapidFire 10590.rf is applied. For more
details refer to the Enabling the FIPS mode on the Information Server topic in the
BV-Control_for_UNIX_Online_Help.chm.

To update all the target computers in the enterprise;

1 Before applying the RapidFire, ensure that there are no queries executing on
the target computers.

2 Select the appropriate server group that you want to update in the UNIX
Enterprise Browser.

3 From the menu select Action > Update RapidFire .

4 In the Select RapidFire Package dialog box, select 10590.rf.

To update a selected target computer

1 Before applying the RapidFire, ensure that there are no queries executing on
the target computer.

2 Select the UNIX target computer that you want to update in the UNIX
Enterprise Browser.

3 From the menu select Action > Update RapidFire .

4 In the Select RapidFire Package dialog box, select 10590.rf.
