Problem
A restore job in the SharePoint 2010 Disaster Recovery restore process in the Backup Exec Administrators Guide may fail if previous SharePoint databases are alive.
Error
0xe000fefe - An error occurred while connecting the restored databases to the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Farm. The portal was not restored.
Environment
Microsoft SharePoint 2010
Cause
If the data like web service application already exists on the SQL instance, the restore job fails.
Solution
It is necessary to delete the databases before restore jobs to avoid the error.
1. Stop SharePoint services from Windows service.
2. Launch SQL Server Management Studio.
3. Delete the following databases.
Bdc_Service_DB_*
Managed Metadata Service_*
PerformancePoint Service Application_*
Search_Service_Application_*
Secure_Store_Service_DB_*
SharePoint_AdminContent_*
SharePoint_Config
StateService_*
User Profile Service Application_*
UserProfileApplication_SyncDB*
WebAnalyticsService Application_*
WordAutomationServices_*
4. Go back to the Disaster Recovery restore process in the Backup Exec Administrators Guide.
You can start from "Step 5 Restore all Web applications."
