Environment

Backup Exec 2012

Cause

SQL OSQL components are missing, partially installed, or not installed on the Operating System.

OSQL utility uses ODBC API to communicate to Backup Exec SQL server instance and SQL ODBC driver is not installed.

Solution

Running OSQL command from command line results in the following errors:

OLE DB provider 'SQLNCLI' cannot be used for distributed queries because the provider is configured to run in single-threaded apartment mode.

ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

1) Apply Backup Exec 2012 Service Pack 1a (TECH186717).

2) Install SQL Express 2005 Sp4 SQL Native Client.

3) Re-install Backup Exec reports using reports.sql per technote (TECH125262).

4) Apply Backup Exec 2012 dbupgradebuildtobuild.sql using same procedure noted in Step 3 above.
