Issue



When running a physical to virtual (P2V) conversion job to convert a server/backup to virtual disk the job fails formatting the target virtual disk.


Error



0xe000a416 - Failed to format a volume from the virtual disks.

 

Debug Error:

[engidrapi] - WARNING: Could not access the volume \\?\Volume{f4b4e9d4-512c-11e2-90f8-3cd92b51c98f}\. Failed with (0x3ED).
[p2vhelper] - FormatEx was unable to complete successfully 126-The specified module could not be found.
[p2vhelper]- formatDisksForHyperV Could not format the volume: <volume information>

P2V Conversion Job


Cause



Timing issue formatting the Virtual Disk.


Solution



A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Documents at the end of this article to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.

Backup Exec 2012 Rev 1798 Service Pack 4 (TECH212772).


 

The following DWORD regkey can be added after applying SP4  if the default time is still not long enough to format

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\P2V\PreVolumeFormatSleepTime

Value is the number of seconds to sleep i.e 120 to wait  2 min. Default is 0.
