After a restart of a Windows 2008 Server, Symantec RMS Process Manager service fails to start automatically; manual starting of these services completes fine.

Solution

Perform the following steps to resolve issue:

  1. On the Information Server, click on Start | Run type SERVICES.MSC and hit enter
  2. On the Services window scroll down to Symantec RMS Process Manager service
  3. Right click on the Symantec RMS Process Manager service,
  4. Right click on it and go to Properties
  5. Changed Startup Type to Automatic (Delayed Start) and reboot the machine.

Note: The delayed start will start the services at a lower priority during the boot process. It specifies that a service should be started approximately 2 minutes after the system has completed starting the operating system.  An example of a service that use the Automatic (Delayed Start) startup type is the Windows Update service that scans for applicable security updates for the system.
