 Backup Exec 2012: Unable to log in to the Administrator Console after an upgrade.


Error



Could not connect to server <MediaServer>. Check that the server name and login credentials were entered correctly and that BackupExec services are running on the server.

The Backup Exec Management Service was unable to start.

 

The above error may appear regardless if the Backup Exec Management Service is actively running. 


Solution



 

A workaround is available for some, but not all, instances of this situation. 

 

To determine whether the following workaround is applicable, review the contents of the  machine.config   file found at 

 

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config

  or  

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config     (for 64-bit Servers) 

 

 

Open the machine.config file with Windows Notepad, then Search for the text   DbProviderFactories          

If a section similar to the one shown below is found, delete the entire line referenced below, then Save the File.
