Issue

The EvNetAppPhSvr process is being restarted several times a day unnecessarily, causing continuous deregistration against the fpolicy on all vfilers, which in turn affects the recall of Placeholders.

Error

Event ID: 45078 - The slave process for the NetApp placeholder named: EvNetAppPhSvr.exe has requested a restart and will be restarted.

Cause

The NetApp Service Manager reads the server configuration once during startup and then a refresh function periodically performs healthcheck of the services slave process.

While reading the configuration, a function is invoked to collect information of all the filers and to check if any new filer has been additionally configured (or removed) via the Vault Administration Console (VAC).
If the filer configuration is found changed, then the logic triggers a request to stop the slave process

When the server configuration is read at startup, a list of filers is created by enumerating all NetApp file servers.
When the periodic healthcheck is performed, another temporary list of filers is created by enumerating all NetApp file servers and then this refresh list is compared with the initial startup list, element by element.
If the filers in the refresh list are not fetched in the exact order as that of the startup list, then the refresh logic wrongly infers that there is a change in the NetApp server configuration, therefore the slave process is stopped and re-started.
