beremote.exe intermittently crashes in ntdll.dll when restoring VMware guest machine

Problem



The Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems service (beremote.exe) on a media server intermittently crashes in ntdll.dll when restoring a VMware guest machine.
The following error is reported in an application event log when the process crashes.

Solution



Re-execute the restore job after re-starting the Backup Exec Remote Agent service.

 

Workaround:

1. Stop all Backup Exec services on the Media sever
2. Set the following registry keys to a value of "0"
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec for Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Vmware Agent\Enable Buffered Reads
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec for Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Vmware Agent\Enable Buffered Writes
3. Start all Backup Exec Services
