How to Import Oracle databases in Control Compliance Suite (CCS) v11.0

In CCS 11.0 , we can import assets in two ways , which are described below :

Method 1: Importing Oracle database asset using the "Add Asset" option in the Manage > Asset System view .

  1. Go to Manage > Asset System .
  2. Right click on the Asset View and click on 'Add Asset' ( right side of the pane ) or expand "Asset tasks" and click on 'Add Asset'
  3. Add Asset wizard opens , select the 'location' where you would like to import the oracle database asset --> Select 'Asset type' to 'Oracle Configured databases'  (Note : Asset type as Oracle configured servers is deprecated in the CCS 11.0 version and no longer exist as asset type )
  4. In 'Add an asset or import multiple assets' section , there are two options provided .
    • Add asset classification : You can choose the Oracle database to import according to the OS it is installed on i.e. Oracle databases - UNIX OS or Oracle databases Windows OS
    • In Import assets section : We can select a CSV file to import the assets from .
  5.  In the next window 'Specify Asset details' , enter the details of the Oracle database and the server it is hosted on ( This section is self explanatory ).
  6.  Once by following the above steps, the Oracle configured asset is added to the Asset System, then add the Oracle database’s user credentials by clicking on the Credentials view and adding asset credentials .

Things to know ( post asset addition in CCS 11.0 as described in the above steps)

Once the Oracle asset is imported , we can test the connectivity of the Oracle database with the CCS 11.0 console by running a test Oracle query from the Queries view.  When a test query is executed against the newly added Oracle configured database , we might face the below mentioned issue , which is  described below :

Error message: < Server_Name> : The data collection will only work if following fields have valid values: ORCL.CONFIGUREDDATABASES.OSVERSION, ORCL.CONFIGUREDDATABASES.OSSystem. These values can be specified from the asset management in the CCS console

The above error message can appear if the ‘Operating System Version’ and ‘Database Version’ fields are not accurate in the Asset-type properties tab for the concerned Oracle configured database . This can be resolved by providing the accurate information for the mentioned fields and saving the changes for the same in the asset properties.\

Method 2 : This method of importing the oracle database requires an asset import job to be created and executed in the CCS console.  Note : For Oracle databases residing on the Windows platform , there needs to be trust between the CCS’s domain and the target Oracle Server’s domain. 

  1. Go to the Asset view in CCS 11.0 console and click on the ‘Asset Task’ drop down. Select ‘Import Asset’.
  2. 'Create or Edit Asset Import wizard' opens , In “Select AssetType , Source .and Scope” window , select the below according to the fields :
    • Asset Type : Oracle configured databases
    • Source : There are three options ,
      • CSV file : You can import one or more than one Oracle databases using the CSV file . Click on the browse tab and select the CSV file to import the assets . Note : The CSV data collector for Oracle platform should be configured prior to this step.
      • Database using ODBC connection type : This option uses the ODBC data collector to import the Oracle database .( Asset import using this option is out of scope in this tech note ).
      • Network : You can use this option , if scoping for Oracle databases from already imported UNIX machine or a Windows machine ( which are either imported using the CCS 11.0 agents for UNIX and Windows platform, or machines added in agentless mode i.e. by using the ‘add asset’ option in the Asset View).
    • Scope : This field depends on what is selected in the source tab. If network is selected above , click on ‘green plus ‘ sign and browse to the Windows or UNIX machine from where the Oracle database needs to be imported .
  3.  Once the above steps are performed , then click next which brings us to ‘Asset Import Options’ window : This window is self explanatory  
  4. After selecting  the appropriate asset folder to import the asset into and other options as per the needs , we come to the next option ‘Specify Asset Field Filters’ : Where we can provide filters like the Oracle database name , IP address etc to import .
  5. We can then schedule the job to import the asset accordingly or just click on run now to execute the job .
  6. Click Next and follow through the remaining options to complete the asset import job .

 Once the asset is imported using the above mentioned steps , provide the credentials for the Oracle database using the Credentials view .
