Issue

Error Message, 'Failed to add the asset in asset system' while doing an asset import for UNIX servers using one-time manual entry job in Control Compliance Suite(CCS) 10.5.1

Cause

One of the reason for this error message is  if the machine name column as displayed in the RMS console for machines data source for the specific server , doesn't match with the one specified during one-time manual entry in the asset import job .

Solution

Follow these steps:

  1. Assuming that the configuration of the concerned UNIX server is properly configured in RMS and we are able to query the server properly , query the 'Machines' data sources in the bv control for UNIX snap-in ( make sure to include the field ‘Machine Name’ for this data source query)
  2. Once the data is returned for this query , note down the exact ‘machine name’ returned in this query .
  3. In the CCS console , create or edit the asset import job for one-time manual entry , and put in the same ‘machine name’ as noted in the above step into the ‘machine name’ column of the one-time manual entry data collector and finish the asset import wizard by running the job again .
  4. This time , the asset should be imported into the CCS console.
