Issue

Backups of a VMware host fail with "Final error: 0xe0009541 - Could not connect to the vCenter server or ESX server. Please verify the credential supplied for login" when the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) is not enabled for the job.  This issue is seen when the selection is made through vCenter or to the ESX host directly.

Workaround: (Backup Exec 2012)

Please verify that all permissions are correct for the account being used for the backup process.  For more information on what permissions are needed to protect an ESX host please refer to the related documents at the end of this article.

If the permissions are correct, enabling the Advanced Open File Option should allow the backups to complete successfully.
