Problem
An attempt was being made to initialise a lun on a Solaris 9 machine using the vxdisksetup command. The previous history of the lun was unknown.
Error
# vxdisksetup -i san_vc0_9
VxVM vxdisk ERROR V-5-1-535 Device san_vc0_9: Invalid attributes
Environment
Solaris 9
Volume Manager 5.1SP1
Cause
It transpired that the disk had formerly been used for ZFS on another system.
Solution
The suggestion was given that since the lun was being reinitialised, that a precautionary dd be run over the first 100MB or so to remove any possible stale ZFS information/headers. The disk was then relabeled using format (either SMI or EFI), and the disk could then be reinitialised successfully using vxdisksetup.
