Issue

Install fails with a database population failed error.

Error

"Database Population FAILED" message from the SISManagementInstallWrapper.log

Environment

5.2.9 Management Server

Windows 2008

Cause

SQL Browser service disabled for security reasons.

Solution

In general, our software (both the installation kit and the server) query the MS SQL discovery port (UDP 1434) to look up the actual port being used by the desired MS SQL instance. This lookup is done by the jtds JDBC driver, not directly by our code. As long as the discovery port is accessible (not blocked by firewalls, not explicitly disabled, etc) we should be able to find the MSSQL instance port without specifying it in the URL – whether the instance port is the default of 1433 or some other number.

In this particular case, the browser and UDP ports were disabled due to security considerations.  The database cannot be accessed using UDP discovery port, DBTableLoader failed to load.

While installing SQL Server 2008 on Server Configuration setting select “Collation” tab and set it to Latin.
