Enterprise Vault creates MDC files for each additional Archive end users have access to regardless of the choice to synchronize the additional Archives into Vault Cache.

An empty "MDC" file is created in the Vault Cache folder of end users that have permissions to mailboxes that are enabled by Enterprise Vault. This occurs when Vault Cache is enabled for the end user and the desktop policy associated to the end users mailbox is set with the option 'Synchronize Archive Types - All mailbox Archives or All mailbox or shared Archives'.
The MDC files are created even if the end user does not select the option to synchronize the additional mailboxes to cache.
When Outlook launches, the MDC files behave in much the same manner as PST files. A significant number of MDC files attempting to load may result in memory and performance issues within Outlook.
The Enterprise Vault Client log may report out of memory errors (0x8007000E) as seen below:

This issue occurs under the following conditions.
- Vault Cache is enabled for the impacted end user(s).
- The Exchange Desktop Policy associated to the end user(s) mailbox has theVault Cache Setting - Synchronize Archive Types - 'All mailbox Archives' or 'All mailbox and shared archives' selected.
- The impacted end user(s) have permissions to several Enterprise Vault Archives.
Note: This issue occurs regardless of whether the additional Archives are selected to be synchronized in Vault Cache.
One of the two options may suffice as a workaround.
- Adjust the impacted end user(s) Exchange Desktop Policy - Vault Cache Setting - Synchronize Archive Types to Default Mailbox.
- Remove the impacted end user(s) permissions from any Archives that are not required.
