A count of Indexed Items on an Enterprise Vault (EV) archive randomly shows as 0 items

Issue



When looking at Indexed Items through the Index Volumes Browser the archives index is showing as having 0 Indexed items when the archive has indexed items within it. As demonstrated below the Indexed Items count is 0 but the range is set at 1-2856. Using an EV web application to search the index volume is successful as shown below and returns 2856 results as expected..

This issue creates no product functionality problems.

Solution



Currently the workaround to temporarily resolve the issue is to perform either one of the following tasks:-

1. Run an Index Verify against the relevant index volume. To do this:

  • Open the Vault Administration Console (VAC).
  • Find the relevant archive and double click on it.
  • Select the Index Volumes tab.
  • Click on the Manage Indexes button.
  • Click on Verify.
  • Select the relevant Index Volume.
  • Click Next twice and then Create Task.
  • Click on Monitor Tasks.
  • Using the refresh button monitor the Verify task until it has a status of successful.
  • Check the Indexed Items value and ensure it is set to the correct value and not 0.

2. Run an Index Synchronization against the relevant index volume. To do this:-

  • Open the Vault Administration Console (VAC).
  • Find the relevant archive and double click on it.
  • Select the Index Volumes tab.
  • Click on the Manage Indexes button.
  • Click on Synchronize.
  • Select the relevant Index Volume.
  • Click Next twice and then Create Task.
  • Click on Monitor Tasks.
  • Using the refresh button monitor the Verify task until it has a status of successful.
  • Check the Indexed Items value and ensure it is set to the correct value and not 0.
