How to remedy a failed uninstall of VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) 3.x for Windows 2000 with a hotfix
Solution
Incorrectly uninstalling Volume Manager may leave the
system in a state where Volume Manager can neither be uninstalled nor
re-installed. This document outlines the specific steps that must be taken to
reassemble VERITAS Volume Manager for Windows 2000 with a hotfix. This is done
for the purpose of correctly uninstalling the product. See the Related Documents
portion of this document for links on how to correctly uninstall Volume
Manager.
The original installation media must be available to complete this procedure, i.e. either the product CD or the extracted files from a download. Once these have been located, follow these steps to rebuild the Volume Manager installation:

1. Locate the "VIP"
folder within the installation media. The default location is
"\VIP".
2. Double-click on the folder to
explore the contents. Two msi packages are located within, VRTSobgui.msi
(VERITAS Enterprise Administrator) and VRTSob.msi (VERITAS Enterprise
Administrator Service).
3. Double-click on the
VRTSob.msi file. An installation wizard will launch (Figure 1).

4. Click NEXT
5. In the Customer Information
window, click NEXT. A Setup Type window will display (Figure
2).

6. Choose the COMPLETE
radio button as setup type, then click the NEXT button (Figure
2)
7. Click on INSTALL. This
will load the Enterprise Administrator service.
8. When done, click
FINISH
9. Again, locate the
"VIP" folder and explore it
10. Double Click on the
VRTSobgui.msi file. The install shield wizard for VEA will
launch.
11. Click NEXT
12. In the Customer Information
window, click NEXT. A Setup Type window will display.
13. Choose the COMPLETE
radio button as setup type, then click the NEXT button.
14. Click on INSTALL.
This will load the VERITAS Enterprise Administrator.
15. When complete, click
FINISH
The system is now configured to a point that allows Volume Manager to be correctly uninstalled.
Note: The instructions and images given above are for a VERITAS Volume Manager 3.0 installation. Later versions are similar.
