Issue

Client Task Requests that are orphaned due to missing versions or due to tasks that have been deleted do not get cleaned up (or prevented) causing them to re-run when the site server is restarted.

Error

Old task will re-run after restart of Task Server services.

Environment

ITMS 7.1 SP2

PointFix Rollup v4 installed

Cause

defect

Solution

Jobs/Tasks which have been scheduled against clients should not be deleted.
Turn them off and remove all scheduling data, but leave the tasks on the server.
Keep the ClientTaskInstanceRequests table clean by running this script against the database

SELECT *
FROM ClientTaskInstanceRequests ctir
LEFT OUTER JOIN TaskInstancesStarted tis
ON tis.TaskInstanceGuid = ctir.TaskInstanceGuid
LEFT OUTER JOIN ItemVersions iv
ON iv.VersionGuid = ctir.TaskVersionGuid
WHERE tis.StartTime IS NULL
OR tis.StartTime < GETDATE()-1
OR iv.VersionGuid IS NULL

This will display rows which have either not initialized properly, or should have started more than 24 hours ago.
It will also display tasks which have become orphaned because the tasks no longer exist.
You can delete this invalid data by running the query:
NB! Please ensure that you have backup of your production CMBD Database before running any SQL queries with modification.
DELETE ClientTaskInstanceRequests
FROM ClientTaskInstanceRequests ctir
LEFT OUTER JOIN TaskInstancesStarted tis
ON tis.TaskInstanceGuid = ctir.TaskInstanceGuid
LEFT OUTER JOIN ItemVersions iv
ON iv.VersionGuid = ctir.TaskVersionGuid
WHERE tis.StartTime IS NULL
OR tis.StartTime < GETDATE()-1
OR iv.VersionGuid IS NULL
Symantec Technical Support also have received a PointFix for 7.1 SP2 release (with minimum requirement to have Rollup Version 4 installed).
