Multiple new exceptions are found in backups using Backup Exec 2010 R3 on machines where Symantec Endpoint Protection was recently installed or upgraded to 12.1.2015.2015

Backup jobs using Backup Exec 2010 R3 on machines running Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1.2015.2015 show multiple exceptions which were not present with earlier versions of SEP.

These exceptions are in addition to the two exceptions listed in TECH168444.

Environment



Backup Exec 2010 R3
Windows 2008 Server R2 (64-bit)
Windows 2012 Server (64-bit)
Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2015.2015


Cause



 The junction point "CurrentVersion" in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2015.2015 is processed differently during a backup.


Solution



This issue is resolved in Backup Exec 2012. Please update your software or use the following workaround. 

Workaround:

  1. Edit the selection list for the job and drill down to C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  2. Uncheck the folder "CurrentVersion".
  3. Right-click the "CurrentVersion" folder and click "Include/Exclude Files...".
  4. Then uncheck "Include subdirectories" and change the File field to "*." (without quotes).
  5. Click OK and you should see a partial selection on CurrentVersion with nothing beneath it selected.
  6. Save the changes and run the backup.

NOTE:
This issue is resolved and does not occur in Backup Exec 2012
