Issue

If VMware backups are configured via a vCenter server and group objects have been used to both manage the individual virtual machines (VMs) and to split the backups jobs, then if a high level exclude statement has been created (either accidentally or by deliberate choice) then,  depending on the exact configuration of the exclude and include statements, the error provided below might be seen.

Note: this document was written because of an exclude created at the DataCenter level within the vCenter selections, it is possible that other locations may cause the same problem. Deselecting at vCenter object level does not create an exclude as it empties the selection list instead.

Error

0xe000942a - Backup Exec did not find any resources to include in the backup.

Solution

Adjust the selections to avoid using an Exclude by reviewing the text based view using the View Details tab.

 or

Upgrade to Backup Exec 2014
