Unable to add a email address for alerts in Symantec Protection Engine 7.0.1 when the email domain contains a "-" (hyphen)

You are attempting to set up alerts in Symantec Protection Engine 7.0.1. When you add and email address such as email@example.com, you get an error saying the address is invalid.
Invalid Email Address when attempting to apply or save the user address.

The issue has been addressed with SPE 188.8.131.52.
