Solution

To turn enable/disable debug logging for a NetApp filer running ONTAP 8.1 enter the following the commands through a Command Line Interface (CLI) session with the filer:

 To enable ndmpd debug logging:

  1. Verify the current state of the ndmp debug settings by typing:

options ndmpd.debug.filter

  1. Set the value of the debug filter variable to all (if it is not already set) and verify the change by typing:

options ndmpd.debug.filter all

options ndmpd.debug.filter

  1. Check the value of the ndmp.debug.enable option by typing:

options ndmpd.debug.enable

  1. If not enabled, enable the option and verify the change by typing:

options ndmpd.debug.enable on

options ndmpd.debug.enable

Note: This creates "all" debug logs in the following location:

ONTAP v8.1x: /etc/log/mlog/ndmpd.log The file name is ndmplog.log

ONTAP v8.0 and below: /etc/log; The file name is ndmplog.yyyymmdd format

To disable ndmpd debug logging:

  1. Set the ndmpd.debug.enable to disable and verify the change by typing:

options ndmpd.debug.enable off

options ndmpd.debug.enable

  1.  Set the ndmpd.debug.filter value to none and verify the change by typing:

options ndmpd.debug.filter none

options ndmpd.debug.filter
