When cancelling a VMware backup, bpbrm terminates before confirming bpfis has removed snapshots. bpfis continues to run and create snapshots although they will not be needed nor used.
No error is observed; however, running bpfis processes may be seen on the system long after backup jobs have been cancelled. These unnecessary processes may continue to consume system resources.
This issue has been reported with the following versions of NetBackup for VMware:
The two daemons are failing to properly communicate before the backup is cancelled, leaving bpfis running when it should not be running.
The formal resolution for this issue (Etrack 2897225) is included in the following release:
- NetBackup 7.5 Maintenance Release 5 (184.108.40.206)
NetBackup 220.127.116.11 is now available - please access the Related Article below for more information.
Note: After the initial publication of this document, it was determined that although every reported case affected by this issue had been resolved, there may be multiple causes behind this issue. Additional code to mitigate this issue has been included in the NetBackup 7.6 release, but it is believed that the fix introduced in 18.104.22.168 remains adequate for the 7.5.0.x release line. If you believe you are still experiencing this issue at a 7.5.0.x version later than 22.214.171.124, please contact Symantec technical support, referencing this document and Etrack 3026383 to determine the next course of action.
Note: This hotfix is no longer publicly available, as all of its fixes are included in the NetBackup 126.96.36.199 Maintenance Release. If any of these issues are experienced in a NetBackup 7.5.0.x environment, the supported resolution is to apply the maintenance release.
