The creation of VMDg resources utilizing the Failover Cluster Manager GUI requires creation of an empty role>creating VMDg resources in the empty role>removing those resources from the empty role>adding the resources to the actual role used for the application or virtual machine.  Is there an easier way to automate the creation of VMDg resources?

Symantec support has created a simple script to allow users to create the VMDg resource.

Follow the this process to create a VMDg resource:

1. Create a Clustered Dynamic Diskgroup with VEA

2. From a PowerShell prompt, download and run the attached script "create-VMDg-res.ps1" with the following syntax:

          create-VMDG-res.ps1 <resource name> <diskgroup name>

Once the resource has been created, the Microsoft "Configure Roles" will work properly with the VMDg resources.

create-VMDg-res.ps1 (379 Bytes)
