How to backup a Clustered or Distributed application from a Virtual Machine (VM) with Backup Exec (BE) and be able to restore Application Granular Restore Technology (GRT) content.
Because the application resources are distributed to multiple servers, a VM backup will not get all of that application as it is only backing up a single VM at a time. Thus GRT content cannot be restored as the entire application is not within the single VM.
In order to restore GRT content of a distributed application it must be backed up as a physical backup of that application resource. This allows the backup to get all of the content from the multiple servers the application resides on. Then BE is able to restore GRT content from inside the distributed application.
