Issue

When targeting an asset that has the CCS Agent installed - the data collection job fails but it fails with an error that fails to explain why the job failed.

Error

Windows targets:

{DATE.EN_US} {TIME.EN_US},CCS Agent Data Collector : CCS Agent collector returned with message(s),"{domain\hostname} : Exception while file sync: System.ApplicationException
   at Symantec.Control.Agentbased.CCSAgentQueryManager.SynFile(String jobManifest, String AgentManifestPath, String assetID)
   at Symantec.Control.Provider.QueryPlanning.AgentJobInitiator.Submit()",Error,{domain\hostname},Windows Machine,,

UNIX Targets:

{DATE.EN_US} {TIME.EN_US},CCS Agent Data Collector : CCS Agent collector returned with message(s),"{HOSTNAME.EN_US}:{ip-address} : Exception while file sync: System.ApplicationException
   at Symantec.Control.Agentbased.CCSAgentQueryManager.SynFile(String jobManifest, String AgentManifestPath, String assetID)
   at Symantec.Control.Provider.QueryPlanning.AgentJobInitiator.Submit()",Error,{HOSTNAME.EN_US}:{ip-address},UNIX Machine,,

Environment

Control Compliance Suite 11

Cause

This error shows when the CCS Manager that runs the Query or data collection cannot reach the agent. Or in other words, the CCS Agent service is not running and thus not listing on port 6501 (for Windows) or port 5600 (for UNIX). Or a network issue or misconfiguration is preventing the CCS Manager to reach the agent in question.

Solution

Make sure the CCS Agent service is running and that the CCS Manager that does the query/data collection (check you routing rules!) can reach the agent on the port configured.
