Backup Exec (BE) support for VMware vSphere 5.1

Cause

Solution

Support to Backup and Restore VMware vSphere / ESX  5.1 and 5.1 Update 1 is added in:

Backup Exec 2010 R3 Service Pack 3 - www.symantec.com/docs/TECH203157
Backup Exec 2012 Service Pack 2 - www.symantec.com/docs/TECH203155

Windows Server 2012 uses new File System formats: ReFS and Windows Deduplication. These are only readable on a Windows Sever 2012 Operating System. Since the Backup Exec Sever is not yet supported on a Windows 2012 Server operating system, Virtual Machines containing one or more of these items do not support Granular Restore (GRT). They can be backed up and restored without GRT by restoring the entire Virtual Disk. A Physical style backup using the Agent for Windows inside the Virtual Machine can also be preformed.

Please refer to this document for updates about support of the Backup Exec Server on Windows 2012- http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH196108

Please see the related documents for Granular Restore (GRT) functionality of:
