Issue

BSOD errors occurs after installing Symantec System Recovery 2013 into a Windows Operating System, then rebooting the machine.

Cause

During the SSR 2013 installation process, the kernal-level driver VTRACK is installed, which requires a reboot after installation. During this reboot, or any subsequent reboot, if the operating system does not shutdown in a 'clean' state, the VTRACK driver may not properly shutdown. A check of the system logs may show an improper shutdown event similar to "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." Upon reboot from after a dirty shutdown, the VTRACK driver may blue screen.

Solution

This issue will be resolved in Service Pack 1 for Symantec System Recovery 2013.

As a workaround:

  • Check system logs for any improper shutdown events and resolve them, ensuring that each shutdown\reboot is clean.
  • Reinstall SSR 2013, then reboot.
