Error Message "No appendable media could be mounted, Error - Mount Failed" is reported in a failed Backup Exec job log.

Error

No appendable media could be mounted, Error - Mount failed

Solution

When a backup job is started or is running, the following message  appears in the Job log:
No appendable media could be mounted, Error - Mount Failed

The error given below is displayed in the application event log:

Backup Exec Alert: Job Failed
(Server: "SERVER NAME") (Job: "Test Backup Job") Test Backup Job -- The job failed with the following error: Physical Volume Library Media not found.

This issue occurs because Append to media, terminate job if no appendable media is available is selected in the Backup Job Properties dialog box (Figure 1).

To resolve this problem, change the backup job's method for backup from Append to media, terminate job if no appendable media is available to Append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is available or to Overwrite media (Figure 2).
