Solution
It may be observed after backup job failures that the Remote Agent service has crashed on the media server, which caused the jobs to stop running.
Restarting the Remote Agent service and re-running backups should allow the jobs to run successfully as this particular issue is known to occur randomly rather than with every backup operation.
