Media issues might be encountered due to multiple device related serial numbers if the Backup Exec Deduplication storage folder is deleted and recreated, without addressing jobs and media targeted to the previous Backup Exec Deduplication folder. There can only be one Backup Exec Deduplication folder on a media server, and thus there should only be one related device serial number. If the folder is deleted and then recreated, a new device or folder is created with a new serial number. The media that existed previously, if still in use, might retain the older device serial number and could then run into read/write errors during other media operations.
A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Documents at the end of this article to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.
