Issue

OpsCenter's dbsrv11.exe process has 1 or more CPU cores maxed out at 100% all the time...even while no processes such as data collection, report generation, and alert generation are taking place.

Environment

  • OpsCenter 7.5.x
  • Typically seen with larger databases (30 GB or larger).
  • Commonly seen when OpsCenter is running in VMware.

Cause

Some of the database queries that OpsCenter uses are not optimized for use with Sybase ASA's database structure.  These queries do not run in the most efficient manner possible, causing high CPU usage.

Solution

The formal resolution for this issue (Etrack 2898226) is included in the following release:

  • NetBackup OpsCenter 7.5 Maintenance Update 6 (7.5.0.6)

NetBackup 7.5.0.6 is now available - please access the Related Article below for more information.

In the OpsCenter 7.5.0.6 release, queries have been restructured to run in a more efficient manner, reducing CPU consumption.

Workaround:
An Emergency Engineering Binary (EEB) is available for OpsCenter version 7.5.0.5 by contacting Symantec technical support, referencing this document and Etrack 2898214.
