The entire size of VMDK files is backed up when backing up a VMware virtual machine with thin-provisioned disks using the Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI).
This issue can be caused by VMware KB #2039052.
Please note that there is no error shown in hostd.log in the case of this issue.
Also, note that there are other KBs which causes that the entire size of VMDK file is backed up when backing up a VMware virtual machine.
In those cases, a "FileFault" error or an "Unknown change epoch" error is observed in hostd.log.
QueryChangedDiskAreas API with changeId set to "*" throws FileFault error (1033816)
QueryChangedDiskAreas API call returns a FileFault error (2035976)
