Backup Exec (BE) support for Microsoft Hyper-V 2012
Support to Backup and Restore Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 is added in:
Microsoft's new Virtual disk format VHDX has the following support:
Without Granular Restore (GRT) in both BE 2010 R3 SP3 and BE 2012 SP2.
GRT if the VHDX capacity is less than 2TB in only BE 2012 SP2.
Windows Server 2012 uses new File System formats: ReFS and Windows Deduplication. These are only readable on a Windows Sever 2012 Operating System. Since the Backup Exec Sever is not yet supported on a Windows 2012 Server operating system, Virtual Machines containing one or more of these items do not support Granular Restore (GRT). They can be backed up and restored without GRT by restoring the entire Virtual Disk. A Physical style backup using the Agent for Windows inside the Virtual Machine can also be preformed.
