Environment

Issue

Any SPARC Solaris 10 Fibre Transport (FT) media server that is patched to NetBackup 7.5.0.6 will encounter an issue where the Fibre Transport services (nbftsrvr and nbfdrv64) will start but immediately terminate, recording the following error in the VxUL 199 log:

[JUNGO_SharedIntEnable] Unknown card vendor/product ID = 0xYYYY.0x1077
(where "YYYY" is the DeviceID of a supported QLogic Fibre Channel HBA)

This issue will prevent the FT media server from running all SAN Client backup and restore jobs over Fibre Transport.

When affected by this issue, backup and restore jobs will not be able to use Fibre Transport.  LAN will be used if it is available.

Environment

This issue only affects Solaris 10 FT media servers on SPARC hardware running NetBackup 7.5.0.6.

Other versions and architectures of Solaris are not affected by this issue.

Other versions of NetBackup are not affected by this issue.

Media servers which are not utilizing Fibre Transport are not affected by this issue.

Solution

The formal resolution for this issue (Etrack 3262224) is included in the following release:

  • NetBackup 7.5 Maintenance Release 7 (7.5.0.7)

This release is now available - more information and download links can be found in the Related Article linked below.

Workaround:
Note: This hotfix is no longer publicly available, as all of its fixes are included in the NetBackup 7.5.0.7 Maintenance Release.  If any of these issues are experienced in a NetBackup 7.5.0.x environment, the supported resolution is to apply the latest maintenance release OR upgrade to NetBackup 7.6 or above.

Note: It is crucial that this hotfix be applied BEFORE services are started on the server:

  1. Stop all services on the server.
  2. Apply the NetBackup 7.5.0.6 maintenance release, taking care to answer n when asked if services should be started.
  3. Apply this hotfix.
  4. Now, services may be started.

In the event that 7.5.0.6 has already been applied to the server and this issue is experienced, but the hotfix has not yet been installed, please attempt the following steps:

  1. Stop all services on the server.
  2. Apply this hotfix.
  3. Attempt to start services.

If this issue persists (nbftsrvr and nbfdrv64 do not run or stay running) even after the hotfix has been installed, please contact Symantec techincal support and reference this document ID.
