Sharepoint backup fails with Error: Unable to query the Team database meta-data.

Sharepoint 2007 or WSS 3.0 backup of a content database fails with error:
Error: Unable to query the Team database meta-data.
Backup- Sharepoint - 80\Content-DB 1 (SPSRVR\OFFICESERVERS\WSS_Content)
V-79-57344-794 - Error: Unable to query the Team database meta-data.
This issue is caused by a mismatch between the Web Application name in Sharepoint and the Internet Information Services (IIS) Site name. By default when creating a Web Application in Sharepoint the corresponding site name in IIS will be the same.
This issue has been resolved with Backup Exec 2012 Service Pack 3
