Activating an external keyboard with Microsoft Surface Pro after encryption

Issue



After encrypting a disk on a Microsoft Surface Pro system running on Microsoft Windows 8 booting in UEFI mode, the Touch Cover or Type Cover keyboard becomes inactive upon reboot or after hibernation. This issue applies to Encryption Desktop 10.3.0 and 10.3.1.


Solution



This issue is fixed in the following release:

  • Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2

This version/Maintenance Pack is available for download via your account on Symantec File Connect. fileconnect.symantec.com

Alternate Workaround(s)

Connect the keyboard properly with Surface Pro before you turn on your system and before you perform the following procedures:

To activate the Touch Cover or Type Cover keyboard at reboot

  1. Press and hold the power button (present on the top right edge of Surface Pro), and then press the volume down button (present along the left edge of the Surface Pro) simultaneously.
     

To activate the Touch Cover or Type Cover keyboard after Windows hibernation

  1. Press and hold the power button to turn off Surface Pro.
  2. Press and hold the power button, and then press the volume down button (present along the left edge of Surface Pro) simultaneously.
