The Backup Exec Agent for Windows Servers (Beremote.exe) crashes when backing up SharePoint 2010 with backup Exec 2012. When performing Sharepoint GRT backups to disk the crash will be the Remote Agent on the Backup Exec server. When doing backups to tape or OST device the crash will occur on the Sharepoint SQL server. These crashes seem to most commonly occur during incremental backups but may occur on any Sharepoint GRT backup.
Note that this is a similar crash to what is addressed in Technote TECH193100. That crash was resolved with Service Pack 2 for Backup Exec 2012.
Following error is seen in the system log.
The Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows service terminated unexpectedly.
In most cases, the crash only occurs during incremental or differential GRT backups so performing only full backups will eliminate the service crash. In some cases, all backups experience the crash so performing the backups without the GRT option enabled should eliminate it.
