Backup times for Active directory granular backup to tape increase significantly after upgrade from Backup Exec 2010 R3 to Backup Exec 2012

After upgrade from Backup Exec 2010 R3 to Backup Exec 2012 the following symptoms are observed when performing a a Granular (GRT) Backup to tape of Active Directory (AD)
- Increases in both backup times and memory / CPU usage by the BEREMOTE.EXE service.
- Backup job hang on the 'Updating Catalogs,' phase of the backup.
- The entire Global Directory of AD is seen being transverse.
No specific error has been reported with this issue.
In some cases the DC during GRT to tape backup jobs appear to be in a hung/frozen state.
Windows 2003 Standard SP2 32-bit
BEREMOTE.EXE transverse a AD Global Directory consisting of a large number of entries (e.g. Over 100K entries).
