Issue



VMware agent (AVVI) backups fail for certain virtual machines with the errors listed below.

Other virtual machines in the same environment backup successfully when using SAN mode.


Error



The selected transport mode is unsupported by the current setup

VixDiskLib_Open(): Transport mode 'nbd' used for opening the disk.
V-79-57344-38283 - The selected transport mode is unsupported by the current setup.

VixDiskLib_Open(): Transport mode 'nbd' used for opening the disk.


Environment



ESX 5.1


Solution



Workaround:

Use NBD mode for the affected virtual machine(s).

Solution:

  1. Stop the Backup Exec services
  2. Delete contents of the following folder: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data\VMwareTemp
  3. Start the Backup Exec services
