Redirected restore of a SQL database with snapshot fails if the SQL Server system administrator account is being used

Issue



While restoring a SQL database to a location other than the default SQL directory, the job fails with an error if the SQL "sa" is being used for the restore operation

 


Error



The restore operation fails with one of the following errors:

  • An error occurred while attempting to recover the database, V-79-57344-38051.
  • The logon account that was provided does not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct, and then try again. V-79-57344-39777.

Cause



The SQL "sa" account being used does not have the appropriate credentials to access the directory to which the data needs to be redirected.

 


Solution



Use a Windows user account that has the System Administrator role on the SQL instance to instead of the "sa" account to perform the restore.
