Metadata Index Catalog Job for Sharepoint 2010 takes a long time to complete

Backup of Sharepoint 2010 using Backup Exec 2010 R3 SP3 hangs at updating catalog state but eventually completes. The same backup performed using Backup Exec 2012 shows the Metadata Index Catalog Job running very slowly. It eventually completes but takes a very long time.
Run Non GRT Backup of Sharepoint.
