Problem
Steps to be taken for a Sybase clustered alternative client restore
Solution
This is a tried and tested configuration for Sybase to work for an alternative client restore.
This particular example shows Sybase in a cluster environment using the -client option within the Sybase load database command. However, this configuration can also work in a non-clustered environment which has also been tested.
1. A backup image of virtualCluster1 on clientHost1 can be created and restored using the following configuration:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf:
CLIENT_NAME = clientHost1
$SYBASE/bp.conf
CLIENT_NAME = virtualCluster1
2. The same backup image can be restored to virtualCluster2 on clientHost2 using the following configuration, provided that the alternate client restore is performed using the same Sybase login as on the original client:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf:
CLIENT_NAME = clientHost2
$SYBASE/bp.conf
CLIENT_NAME = virtualCluster2
The LOAD command in the Sybase script should equal to -CLIENT virtualCluster1
For example:
load database mydb from "sybackup::SYB!!.mydb.D.0.24312.17-12-1999.14:05:25 -SERV master-server -Client virtualCluster1
